A couple of questions for you if you have the time to answer.
Firstly, it's pretty clear we've shifted to a set of guys who are perhaps 'lesser known quantities' but appear to have hunger and desire as well as balance off the ice. It seems many of the guys have off ice academies or charities and many are doing Uni courses. Was this a conscious choice to go with these sorts of guys?
Secondly, how do you feel the younger guys improved last season through their various learning opportunities, be that Rob Lachowicz playing a number of games in the EPL, Stevie Lee with a full season with Panthers or young Josh soaking up the atmosphere and logging some minutes for us in the EIHL?
And finally just how excited are you at the prospect at sticking Jade on a line with Mr Beauregard... surely the results are going to be devastating?
Well, I do have some great answers to the questions posed above but feel it only appropriate to answer those pertaining to the summer academy. Hope you understand. The official Panther website would be the place to cover all team news...
I felt the young guys who played in the EPL had a pretty good experience. When I checked up on Lacho and Bully during the EPL finals weekend I was pleasantly suprised by their development.
The EPL does lack the speed and structure of the EIHL but I, and the boys, knew that on the way in. Their jobs were to improve their confidence and skills on the puck and to learn how to play against men.
Lee and Norton developed nicely with the Panthers and we're very happy with both their progress. I'm very demanding of my defensemen and hold them to a very high standard so I felt placing them with the parent club the best option for their improvement (and the club's success).
Ward, Bowley, Weldon, and Soar all played with the Lions and seemed to excel under the watchful eye of Martin. They also trained with our club once/week and got into some games towards the end of the season.
Ward is the most physically mature so he had the biggest role last season and has so far impressed very much. The others are now hitting that stage of physical maturity as well so we will see what is in store for them. The club hopes that our investment in their future will someday pay dividends down the road the same way it has for Norton, Lee, and Lachowicz.
Cheers Corey. It's great to see this sort of thing happening. It is great to see the investment of time and money the club and these players (and their families) are making and it can surely only be good for UK Ice Hockey.
Enjoy the rest of the camp, the fans back home are chomping at the bit for the puck drop in September.
Last year you played in the Stanley Keg tournament.Less I have missed anything. Are you doing something like that now OR just getting ready for the season by training?
The Stanley Keg tourney starts this Friday at 8pm. The boys will all be separated on two teams and do their best to qualify for the semi-finals and finals. I will try to make sure somebody gets a report up for each team's games. Alex Penner is making the trip down to play as well...
Thanks Corey,...Let us know how you all do in the Keg.Team names,Scores etc...is there a site which shows the whole detail?...(cant remember address)I looked it up last year and made up a programme to complete full details of the event because we entered as a team, though you say this time we are split into two.
